London, the beating heart of the United Kingdom, home to 9 million residents who help pump over 600 billion pounds of economic output. Of this, billions of pounds are brought into the sprawling city by tourists. In April of 2019, I found myself as one of these many visitors. Paying admittedly far too much for a starter of carrot sticks and humous in a Greek restaurant situated on the banks of the Thames, as well as refusing to use the bathroom on the 72nd floor of the Shard with a floor to ceiling view of the city.
This summer, I once again found myself part of the millions who visit the area each year. However, this year I did not come to visit the shard or pay too much for dinner. Instead, I travelled here with a group from Politics in Action to document one of the most important periods in recent years for the Northern Irish youth.
For years now Scotland and Wales have lowered the age of voting to 16 however this change has been resisted in Northern Ireland and England so consequently the national voting age has remained as 18. Watch as PIA visits London to find out more and help push for the voting age to be lowered.
